There’s a beer war going on in Washington as lobbyists for so-called big beer try to defeat a proposal to help out little brewers across the U.S. In this extra we explore The BEER Act
and the Small BREW Act
Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland is the lead sponsor of the bipartisan Small BREW Act, which is really craft beer’s bill. The legislation would help small craft breweries by reducing the taxes for each barrel of beer – cutting costs for microbreweries that don’t have the same resources as “big beer.”
We don’t take sides on policy at Bills and Brews, but we do support cheaper beer!
We’re planning to meet Cardin at Heavy Seas in gritty Baltimore where he tapped their first keg
in the 70’s (he was into craft before it was cool!), but until we hit our Kickstarter
, we’re stuck interviewing lawmakers in the Capitol.
