Craft beer lover Sean Haugh not only supports legalizing marijuana, he smokes it too.
There’s nothing new about politicians doing drugs, especially smoking weed. But there’s something kinda refreshing when they admit their ‘habit’ or, as it’s known in many states these days, their ‘prescription,’ before it gets highlighted by the police or press corps.
Sean Haugh smokes pot.
“I actually do,” Haugh tells Bills and Brews host Matt Laslo as they sip local North Carolina beers on the latest episode. “This is the first time I’ve ever admitted it to anybody, but this is the first time anybody’s ever asked me directly.”
The candidate is running for U.S. Senate in North Carolina, where marijuana remains illegal except in extremely rare cases. Haugh doesn’t seem to care though.
“I have arthritis, but I don’t have arthritis pain,” Haugh says during the episode with a smirk on his face.
The two also discuss why Haugh hopped in the most expensive race in the 2014 election cycle using craft beer, and not corporate dollars, to win over voters.
Bills and Brews has no answer as to whether Haugh’s opponents, Kay Hagan, the incumbent senator, or N.C.’s speaker of the House, Thom Tillis, also smoke weed or drink craft beer. They didn’t respond to an invitation to be on the show.
But we suspect they do, ‘cause you’d need something to get through their ads (some analysis says one is playing every minute down there)! Thanks for one of the most nauseating Senate race in the nation’s history, people…
And if they’re anything like Presidents Obama, W. Bush and Clinton, they probably have some great, drug-induced stories to recount to Laslo when they finally chill out, kick their feet up and join him for a local craft beer.
