Welcome to the first Kickstarter edition of Bills and Brews! This episode has our first interview with a brewer: Brandon Skall, co-owner of DC Brau – arguably the first company to spark the craft brew revolution that’s taking over the nation’s capital.
We’ll be posting this web extras regularly as we run our Kickstarter campaign (make sure to check out our Kickstarter video, it might make you smile and/or jealous of our host who thinks he can drink craft beers anywhere he wants in your Capitol…). We need to hit that fundraising goal before we can shoot our next full episode with a lawmaker.
But we’re happy to announce beer loving politicians of all stripes are clamoring to face Laslo on Bills and Brews: Small Brewers Caucus co-chair Rep. Patrick McHenry of Asheville, NC wants to be guest number two, which we hope to shoot in his district. And Sen. Marco Rubio told Laslo after a vote, he’s ready to come on “after lent.” And Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland – sponsor of the Small BREW Act – wants us to shoot an episode with him at Heavy Seas in Baltimore – a spot close to his heart because he helped tap their first keg in the 70s! Also, Sen. Lisa Murkowski is asking us to venture outside of the lower 48 and follow her around as she tries to hit each craft brewery in Alaska (extra funding needed to get us that far up north, but mountains, deserts and oceans can’t stop this crew!).
We’ve also had outright requests or interest in coming on Bills and Brews from Reps. Holmes Norton (DC), Connolly (VA), LaMalfa (CA), Delaney (MD), Welch (VT), Moran (VA), along with Sens. Warner (VA), Udall (CO) Kaine (VA), and Coons (DE). Also Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, a rumored Hillary Clinton challenger, seemed pretty down for a show when Laslo chatted with him at the last National Governors Association meeting in D.C.
But we can’t do any of those without getting the funding for our Kickstarter. Please consider supporting us: we can’t change Washington with simple pub chats over local craft beers, a smile and a sprinkle of our wry humor without you!
